Fall Prevention, More Essential Than One May Think

Posted on January 5, 2017 · Posted in Grand Oaks

It may or may not surprise you that millions of older adults fall annually. According to the Center for Disease Control or CDC, around 2.8 million (65 and older) adults are treated for fall-related injuries in emergency rooms each year. As these numbers continue to increase over time, it is apparent that fall prevention is not a mere precaution but an absolute necessity.

The Visiting Nurse Association of Florida offers a Fall Prevention program used to educate families on the best methods for preventing falls. The program provides the tools you or your loved one needs to remain healthy and independent. We utilize many of these tools here at Grand Oaks to help our residents avoid accidents and injuries.

The program aims to educate and increase understanding regarding:

  • Chronic disease
  • Visual changes
  • Blood pressure changes
  • Potential hazards at home
  • Side effects of medications

In addition to educational tools, VNA of Florida offers physical and occupational therapy to help increase mobility and endurance, as well as improve balance and coordination skills. VNA Physical and Occupational Therapists can provide these services for you or a loved one at Grand Oaks in our health and wellness center or in the comfort of your suite.
